Alty on Foot: 25 Years of Regeneration and Placemaking

 

Join Matt Stirton, Principal Landscape Architect at Planit, for a guided walking tour exploring the regeneration of Altrincham, or “Alty”, as it is affectionately known.

Drawing on Planit’s 25 years of work in the town, Matt will share the thinking and collaborative process behind Altrincham’s transformation. The tour will explore public realm strategies, placemaking, wayfinding and heritage, as well as how art and local history have been embedded into the town’s evolving identity.

The event will bring together members of both the Main Member Base and NextGen, creating an opportunity to exchange perspectives and experiences. The tour will also include a NextGen perspective on the design of the town centre, reflecting on what works, what could be improved and how Altrincham can continue to evolve for future generations.

We will meet at Planit’s Altrincham studio at 9:00am for tea, coffee and pastries, followed by a short introduction to the experience of designing and shaping a place we call home.

From there, we will head out on a walking tour lasting approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Afterwards, guests are welcome to return to the studio to collect their belongings and enjoy another drink before starting the rest of their day.

Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear, and bring an umbrella—just in case—as we will be walking throughout the town centre.

Members and non-members of all genders are welcome to attend.
