Join the North West Branch for a tour of Wrexham’s historical quarter! One of 5 in the UK to secure National Lottery Heritage Fund, Townscape Heritage funding to regenerate the city centre heritage assets, bringing life back into Wrexham’s Victorian markets; creation of new public realm scheme designed to eliminate vehicles, creating the spaces for events, and café culture.
The walking tour will be led by Janine Beggan who is a Regeneration Manager for Wrexham County Borough Council, qualified Landscape Architect, and teacher. Janine is passionate about the built environment from buildings to urban spaces and how the environment can support health & wellbeing. With extensive experience from private and Local Government, both abroad and within UK; ensuring investment goes beyond bricks and mortar to schemes promoting landscape solutions to health, wellbeing, nature recovery and climate resilience; integrating high-quality landscapes into all schemes, providing vital opportunities to improve access to green space. She is passionate about refurbishing heritage assets bringing them back into use, creating high quality refurbishments that benefit people, place and nature.
Attendees should arrive at Queens Square at 9.15am (no later than 9.30am). We will walk through the city centre and head over to the focus area of the Townscape Heritage scheme which will include Wrexham’s indoor markets, onto High Street public realm scheme and end at Ty Pawb, Wrexham’s multi award winning cultural community resource for a final Q&A session and networking over tea and coffee.
