This captivating walking tour will transport you to a Manchester of the past, revealing the hidden layers beneath its modern façade. We Built This City From Depression uncovers the forgotten stories and struggles that shaped the Northern powerhouse we know today.
Through cobbled streets and long-forgotten tales, you’ll discover the resilient spirit of the city, from the Industrial Revolution to the Great Depression, the iconic works of Lowry, and the IRA bombing that catalysed Manchester’s transformation. Ever wondered why Manchester proudly carries the symbol of the bee? This tour explores that and more, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs that define its history.
Led by Zakia and Stephen, our guides bring a unique perspective to the experience, weaving in their own memories of homelessness and poverty to connect past struggles with present-day realities.

The tour ends on Chorlton Street, a stone’s throw away from Canal Street, with easy walkable access to major tram routes and Piccadilly, Oxford Road, Manchester Victoria Train Stations.
