Hope - Lose Hill - Back Tor - Hollins Cross - Castleton - Hope (approx 11.5km)
Grade: Medium
Max elevation: 471m
Total ascent: 423m
Lunch: Bring a picnic!
Early Supper (optional): Old Hall Hotel, Hope – pre-booking required.
With our “netwalking” guide, Freshwalks, we will be heading out on our autumn walk using the village of Hope as our base. We intend to meet in the car park of Hope station from 10:15 and start the walk soon after the 09:42 train from Manchester arrives.
The route will see us ascend the lower slopes of Lose Hill where views of the surrounding valley will become increasingly spectacular. The summit will be a well-deserved lunchtime picnic spot.
We'll then walk eastwards along the Great Ridge, dropping off Back Tor (vertigo sufferers should take caution here) and then at Hollins Cross we'll begin our descent down to Castleton. Subject to progress we'll take the opportunity to enjoy a quick drink and toilet stop at one of the village pubs before the final 2.75km (45 mins) stretch back to Hope.
There are return trains to Manchester at 16:09 and 16:40 but for those who want to stay longer, we will be heading to the Old Hall Hotel for an early supper and a drink (pre-paid with pre-orders to be taken).
