Join Women in Property and Knox and Wells Contractors for an exclusive behind-the-scenes site visit to St Fagans Castle and its historic Victorian Glasshouses, part of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales.
The visit will offer a rare opportunity to see conservation work in progress at one of Wales’ most significant historic sites and to learn more about the challenges of repairing and adapting historic buildings while retaining their character, materials and craftsmanship.
Knox and Wells Contractors have been appointed by Amgueddfa Cymru to undertake a programme of conservation repairs at St Fagans Castle, including repairs to the historic roof and chimneys. The project also includes the careful conservation, repair and replacement of elements of the Victorian Glasshouses, helping to secure these important structures for the future.
The works are being delivered with specialist input from the project team, including DB3 and Mann Williams, working alongside specialist contractors and conservation consultants. The site visit will provide an opportunity to see some of this work first-hand and hear about the approach being taken to understand, repair and conserve the historic fabric.
And for those who enjoy a good view, we’ll be heading up to the top of the scaffolding to see the Castle and its roofscape from a rather different perspective!
Site requirements
The visit will involve working at height and walking around an active construction site. Please bring your own suitable steel-capped safety boots. If you have your own hard hat and high-visibility vest, please bring these too; the site team will provide them for anyone who does not have their own.
The event will begin before the site opens to the public, so there will be plenty of free parking available on site. Please make your way to the welfare cabins, where the site team will meet and register attendees.
Members and non-members of all genders are very welcome to attend.
