Tuesday 18 February 2025 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Meet at 12:20pm: West Meat Market Building 2, 2 East Poultry Avenue, Smithfield EC1A
Registration Deadline: 16 February 2025
All event fees are listed net of VAT.
The new London Museum will open in 2026 breathing new life into two historic buildings in the City. The permanent galleries in the Victorian General Market will open first, with the 1960s Poultry Market (home to the temporary exhibitions, collections stores and learning centre) scheduled for 2028.
On this hour long visit we will step inside the Smithfield Poultry Market to see the works happening there, and then move through West Poultry Avenue to the Smithfield General Market where guests will embark on a more detailed tour of the basement and ground floor. The transformation of this space has seen 10,000sqm of brickwork painstakingly cleaned, roof reinforced and the excavation of a network of rediscovered vaults.
If you are able, after the tour join us at a local coffee shop for an opportunity to network and discuss your view on the development with fellow members. A hot or cold drink is included in the event fee as is a small donation to the Museum.
Please note that trousers and long sleeves must be worn on site. PPE will be provided but if you need boots please confirm your shoe size when booking. No photographs can be taken when on site.
Places are limited to 10 people so book quickly to avoid disappointment.
