“See Manchester’s university campuses with new eyes, on a guided walking tour”
How do you find your way around a campus?
Campus environments are complex, layered places. They’re not just spaces for study – they’re destinations for visitors, workplaces for staff and communities in their own right. But what makes the difference between a campus that invites exploration and one that causes confusion?
It’s far more than signs: we all experience places differently, with our own mental map of a place being influenced by experience and navigational clues.
Hot on the heels of this month’s Educational Estates conference, join us for a guided walk through Manchester Metropolitan University’s campus. We’ll test your instincts, compare perspectives and reflect on what makes a campus truly legible and welcoming.
The walk will be led by Placemarque, a Manchester-based wayfinding and information design consultancy. Placemarque’s work brings clarity to complex environments. They work with local authorities, developers and educational institutions to make places more legible, accessible and engaging.
The event will start by exploring how we perceive our surroundings. We’ll then head out for a guided walk through Manchester’s MMU campus to test your perceptions in real time, finishing with a group discussion and a review of the mental maps created along the way.
The morning event includes breakfast pastries and hot drinks.
Members and non-members of all genders are welcome.
