Join the Midlands branch of Women in Property for a walking tour of Digbeth in Birmingham in association with Oval Real Estate.
In 2017, Oval Real Estate began acquiring land and buildings in Digbeth in order to work towards future regeneration. For years, this historic part of Birmingham had been left behind despite being located just 500 metres from the city centre. Digbeth was the cradle of the industrial revolution in the Midlands: home to the great factories and brands of the 19th century, as well as the Grand Union Canal and the famous Bull Ring Cattle Market.
Digbeth is now well known for key buildings and landmarks such as the Custard Factory, Fazeley Studios, The Bond TV Studios, Brunel’s Viaduct and countless other smaller buildings in the neighbourhood (all together, Oval Real Estate houses over 400 creative businesses from graphic designers to dance academies and post-production agencies). In May 2021, Oval secured consent for a 42-acre masterplan comprising public realm, office, leisure and residential space, as well as TV studios. With the new HS2 terminal on the horizon, Digbeth will soon be just 50 minutes from London via Birmingham’s Curzon Street station.
The walking tour will be led by representatives of Oval, commencing at The Bond at 3pm and finishing at The Custard Factory at approx. 4pm. There will then be an opportunity to enjoy a free cocktail, kindly on behalf of Oval, at cocktail bar Passing Fancies (recent winner of New Bar of the Year and Best Bar in the Midlands!) should attendees wish to stay longer to socialise and ask further questions.
Please dress comfortably as the tour will consist of a lot of walking.
