Women in Property South West is delighted to invite you to an evening with Dr Edson Burton: The Transatlantic Slave Trade on the Bristol Landscape.

Dr Edson Burton presents an illustrated talk highlighting key sites in Bristol and their relationship to the Bristol slave trade. Britain's sugar colonies were sites of immense wealth generation but the producers of that wealth, enslaved Africans, did not see a scintilla of those profits and instead these were ploughed into the pockets of an elite sugar industry class, who in turn invested their wealth into private and civic buildings that still exist today.

This thought-provoking event offers an opportunity to reflect on how the legacy of the slave trade continues to be written into the city’s streets and architecture.

Members and Non-Members of all genders are welcome to attend.
