Social History walk with Carol Harris: “Medicinal Bloomsbury"

All event fees are listed net of VAT.

Join Women in Property for a walking tour of "Medicinal Bloomsbury".

This walk with author and historian Carol Harris will look at four themes: the growth of specialist hospitals, children's health, the influence of public health and the changing role and status of women in medicine.

Stops along the way include the specialist hospitals of Queen Square, where Queen Charlotte cared for George III, and from where the writer Fanny Birney wrote a detailed account of her mastectomy. We will also visit Bloomsbury Square where John Radcliffe the pioneering physician, academic and politician hosted dinners with leading medical men.

The walk will finish in Keppel Street, at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the world's leading medical and healthcare university.

Meet at 5.50pm in readiness for a 6pm departure.

The walk will take approximately 90 minutes and after that we will adjourn to a local hostelry for refreshments and the chance to quiz Carol further on her extensive knowledge of Bloomsbury.

Members and non-members of all genders are welcome.
