Summer History Walk – Building Bloomsbury

All event fees are listed net of VAT.

Author and historian Carol Harris will lead us on a walking tour in midtown focused on the development of 56 acres of unwanted farmland into one of the most desirable and fashionable parts of Georgian London.  She will talk about famous architects, surveyors and builders of the day including Cockerell, Burton and Nash and how the Georgians created Bloomsbury.

It’s a story of architects and arguments; road, rivers and angry residents; scandals and slums; and later influences.  The railways, the Luftwaffe and 1960s developers will also feature on this fascinating history walk which lasts about 90 minutes and finishes in Bedford Square.

We will meet outside Coram in Brunswick Square at 5.50pm for a 6.00pm departure.

After the walk we will adjourn to Truckles of Pied Bull Yard for some drinks and nibbles with the chance to chat to fellow walkers and to quiz Carol further on her extensive knowledge of Bloomsbury.

Members and non-members of all genders are welcome.
