Dipalee Jukes is co-founder and director of Ground & Water - a geotechnical engineering consultancy in the south. She is a female, Indian business leader in a predominantly male industry.
Simon Sinek said: “Parenting is the closest thing to leadership”. Yet ‘motherhood’ and ‘business leader’ are two terms often placed in opposition. Is it possible for a mother of young children to successfully lead their work team and their home team? Dipalee has discovered the roles are synonymous and mothers especially, sell themselves short.
Dipalee started Ground & Water in 2009, exactly a year before she fell pregnant with her first child. Balancing motherhood, while growing a company and raising her family, proved to be a precarious juggling act.
Raising children and leading a team in business can go hand in hand, we are all individuals, and we need a bespoke style of care, encouragement, discipline and structure.
Dipalee talks about navigating the competing challenges of motherhood and leadership, leading a team with conviction, and being a successful business leader. With insightful stories (all taken from her lived experiences over the past decade or so) Dipalee enlightens us on the innate skills and attributes women and mothers instinctively have, and how these can be channeled and put into practical use to become your superpowers at work.
