Join the Midlands Branch of Women in Property for a site visit to St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby – this very interesting, design led build.
The existing school was a victim to an arson attack and the school is currently housed in temporary accommodation. The rebuilding of the school is an opportunity for the DfE and St Ralph Sherwin Multi Academies Trust to implement a Biophilic Brief, whilst using the project as a pathfinder scheme to investigate elements of Net Zero Carbon operation on future school projects.
The new two form entry primary school will accommodate Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils and a 60-place on-site nursery. The school will comprise of five single-storey timber frame buildings linked by an exposed canopy. Between each building there will be landscaped areas and play areas to fulfil the aim of bringing the outside in.
M&E service installation will also be different to standard DfE school projects and will include Air Source Heat Pumps as well as NVHR units, which will be incorporated as part of the value engineering exercise.
We will learn of the delivery stages of St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy, which include appropriate design elements in response to the Biophilic Design Brief set by the Client.
Please note that PPE is required.
