Research suggests that three in five menopausal women are negatively affected at work and this results in thousands of women reducing their hours, not going for promotions, taking time off as ‘sick leave’ and worse, leaving their jobs often at the peak of their careers. Now there is greater awareness and openness about the menopause in society, organisations can no longer ignore this issue as women are empowered to speak up with the aim of improving the workplace environment for themselves and their female colleagues. Less than a third of women speak up about their menopause at work often due to concerns about others’ reactions and an expected lack of support. Historically, women have suffered, now is the time to change that by positively influencing the attitudes of colleagues and managers to allow those suffering with really challenging symptoms to speak up.
Please join Dr Alison Macbeth MBChB MRCGP DFFP BMS a British Menopause Society Accredited Menopause Specialist at Health in Menopause who will be discussing the practical and medical needs of menopausal employees and how employers should support them to stay in employment and Katherine Irvine, an Associate solicitor in Lindsays Employment Law team who will be outlining the legal responsibilities of employers in providing support for staff, the various types of discrimination at play in relation to menopause at work including making reasonable adjustments and avoiding discrimination with a quick look at some case law if time permits.
Members and non-members of all genders are welcome.
