There are over 750,000 hectares of land in crofting tenure in Scotland, the majority of which are in the Highlands & Islands. Development on croft land is subject to crofting law, considered by the Law Society of Scotland as ‘complex and difficult’. We are therefore pleased to provide this opportunity to hear from two experienced practitioners in crofting law to explain its implications for development projects - Amy McDowell, a Partner in Gillespie Macandrew's Energy & Strategic Land team and Amy Eskin an Associate in Gillespie Macandrew's Land & Rural Business team.
This webinar will explain the basics of the crofting law regime and provide an overview of the options available to enable development on land subject to crofting tenure. It will outline the practical considerations and assess the legal options available to permit development on croft land. The session will focus on renewable energy developments, but the content will be applicable to other types of proposed development within crofting area.
