Join us for an Exclusive Tour of the Northfield Grove regeneration project with Civic Engineers & Raeburn Farquhar Bowen as part of our fringe events following from the National #PIPbyWiP Summit!

Aligned with the topic of the conference, “rethinking places”, Northfield Grove project revitalised a once-neglected Edinburgh housing estate. Through innovative design, it transformed the area into a climate-resilient neighbourhood. The project's green features, like the "green Spine Raingarden," promote environmental sustainability and enhance residents' quality of life.

Nikki and Elisabeth from Civic Engineers, will take us through the completed project, showing us how strategically placed raingardens and swales sustainably manage surface water runoff. These features capture and treat water, reducing the burden on the existing drainage system and mitigating flood risks. Additionally, they enhance biodiversity and improve the local environment. The raingardens, located parallel to the carriageway, create a visually appealing green avenue, separating pedestrians from vehicles.

The completed project significantly improves the quality of life for Northfield Grove residents. It fosters a sustainable, resilient community with enhanced green spaces, recreational areas, and sustainable water management. Shaped by community input, the project serves as a model for urban regeneration in Edinburgh. It demonstrates effective SuDS implementation and promotes a higher quality of life.
