GET (Guidance & Employability Team) Construction &
Property Recruitment Fair
5 October 2011
Women in Property were invited to attend the GET (Guidance &
Employability Team) Construction & Property Recruitment Fair at
the University of Greenwich on 5th October 2011.
Our table exhibition showcased our newsletter, Jobs for the
Girls leaflet and our Student Awards 'Why Wait' poster. The stand
was kindly supported by:
Cathy Stewart of Cathy Stewart Associates
Elisabetta Torricelli from Peter Brett Associates
Paloma Algarra from Byrne Group
Antoana Peklova, former student from University of Kent who
participated in our 2009 awards programme
The fair was attended by 140 students mainly from surveying and
project management courses with many post graduates along with
graduates seeking work. There were significantly few women attended
and the team spoke to all who showed up informing them of the
benefits of being a member. It was hugely enjoyable speaking to the
students and talking about the issues they face upon leaving the
University.
It was interesting that many of the male attendees were also
inquisitive as to what Women in Property were about and they were
invited to attend future events to see Women in Property in
practice. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome them at one of
our seminars!
Cathy was also asked to join a Q&A panel after the event
along side RICS, Chartered Institute of Housing, and Faithful+Gould
(Atkins) to answer questions regarding employment in this
challenging economic climate.
An additional benefit for attending the fair was to broaden our
penetration into the university to support the awards programme. We
hope to secure 5 nominees for the 2012 South East Branch awards. We
have also received further invitations to talk at the School of
Architecture and Construction and to advertise any jobs and
placements on their online vacancy handling system called GET
Online.
