Shibden Park Site Visit
The recent £6.1 million Heritage Lottery Funded (HLF)
restoration of Shibden Park in Halifax has transformed the park
into a major local attraction. The project has breathed new life
into this historic site and upgraded the facilities to meet the
needs of visitors in the 21st Century.
WiP were invited by the Design Team to gain insight into their
roles and particular aspects of this fascinating award winning
project.
The event began in the stunning new Interpretation Centre with
impressive views across the park. The client, Deborah Comyn-Platt
of Calderdale Council, opened the presentation with contributions
from Sarah Bacsich of Turner & Townsend, Jonathan Buckley of
Golder Associates and Richard Sabey and Caroline Batson from Rance
Booth & Smith Architects.
As the rain had stayed away, the group enjoyed an informative
tour round some of the Park's key features, led by Jonathan and the
Design Team with the opportunity to ask questions en-route.
Members took the chance to explore the secret Gardner's Tunnel
although no-one took the opportunity to go on the swings in the
playground!
This proved a popular and enjoyable event. Those of you
who could not make the event should take the opportunity to visit
Shibden Park if you get the chance. It is a great facility
and well deserving of its many awards.
Many thanks to the speakers for giving their valuable time.
This event was organised by Wendy Dent of Rance Booth &
Smith Architects with WiP support from Clare Danahay.
