Fairtrade Fashion Show Networking Evening
On 8 March 2011, Women in Property hosted a very successful
Sustainable Fashion Show Networking Event in conjunction with the
Bristol Fairtrade Network and Burges Salmon law firm.
The evening began with an opportunity to enjoy a drink, browse
some fairtade stalls and network. This was followed by the
main event - a catwalk display of a range of ethical clothing lines
from high street names such as Marks and Spencer, Tesco and Laura
Ashley. Also appearing on the catwalk were collections from local
Fairtrade designers such as Charlie Boots and a Fairtrade range
designed by fashion students from UWE.
Attendees were given an insight into the human benefits of
fairtrade production by Jitzy Centano, a coffee producer from the
Tierra Nuestra Co-operative in Nicaragua. Her inspirational
story was made all the more authentic by being spoken in her native
tongue, Spanish, and interpreted by Jess Randell from Bristol
Link.
The event was rounded off with another opportunity to enjoy a
drink and 'go shopping' at the fairtrade stalls.
The fashion show event proved to be an excellent opportunity to
bring together women working in property at a fun and enjoyable
networking event, yet at the same time support and raise awareness
about the importance of ethical trading in the fashion industry in
terms of both environmental impact and fair labour.
Our thanks go to Jenny Foster and Helen Harrison of Bristol
Fairtrade for all their help in organizing the fashion
show.
